FAQ
Short answers to the questions we hear most.
Where is my data stored?
On your PC. Since version 0.22.0, your mail, drafts, Knowledge and Counsel's conversations are encrypted on the PC, with nothing to set up. There is no Counsel OS server: Teras AI does not receive your mail, drafts or Knowledge. When you use an AI feature, only the text that task needs goes to the AI provider you chose.
Does it send emails on its own?
No. Counsel drafts, you review and edit, and only what you send or schedule goes out. Undo send gives you a few seconds to take an email back.
Can Counsel archive or star my emails?
Yes, when you ask. It shows the emails on a card first: untick any you want to keep, then confirm. Nothing changes until you confirm, and Undo puts everything back.
Which mailboxes does it work with?
Gmail, Outlook / Microsoft 365, and any mailbox that offers IMAP, such as Zoho or the mailbox from your web host. You can connect one of each on a PC and switch between them from the sidebar.
How do updates work?
When a new version is out, Counsel OS shows what is new. Nothing happens until you click Update and then Restart now. If a new version does not start properly, the app goes back to the previous one by itself, and Settings → Updates → Go back lets you return to it whenever you like.
How do I back up my data?
In Settings → Backups, make a backup file locked with a password you choose, and keep it somewhere other than this PC. You can also turn on automatic backups into a folder. A backup file restores your data on this PC or a new one. The app also makes safety copies on the PC automatically before updates that need them.
Is there a Mac version?
Not yet. Counsel OS Local runs on Windows 10 and 11.
How do I get help?
Ask in the Counsel OS Local forum, or write to contact@terasai.dev. See Reporting a problem for what to include.
